You might remember a while back I posted about the NEST Learning Thermostat that I got from the Xfinity Moms event in September last year. Last week Xfinity put on another event for Boston influencers to learn about some new features on their X1 platform, Xfinity Mobile and Xfinity Home.
Actually going into an Xfinity store is an enlightening experience in itself. Xfinity staff are there to explain all the information that they can’t jam into a 30 second advertisement. There’s a lot to learn and the set up and layout of the store makes it really easy to see how everything works and how all of the Xfinity products fit together.
If you are not on the X1 platform, it’s basically a really easy to use interactive TV system that lets you search for and watch shows and movies from TV listings, DVR recordings and On Demand, in seconds.
A little reminder to those of you with Xfinity who aren’t using the Xfinity Remote with Voice Control – you can go into a store and upgrade. It’s a free remote if you’re already on the X1 platform. You can use it to search networks, shows, movies and actor names, change the channel and get movie recommendations. You can even tell it a movie quote and it will find the movie it came from! Hey Xfinity, “You’re going to need a bigger boat.” New on the Xfinity Remote is a feature that allows you to fast forward or rewind by a specific amount of time. For instance, you can tell it, “go back 20 seconds,” or “go forward 10 minutes” to get yo to the scene you want.
But maybe my favorite feature of the new remote is the Xfinity Mobile “Find My Phone” feature. Currently I skype myself once a week to find out where Jules has stashed my phone. Then I run around the house listening intently to couch cushions and piles of laundry for vibrations because my phone is usually on silent mode. Xfinity Mobile “Find My Phone” is basically made for moms of little ones.
xFi and xFi Pods
Xfinity xFi is an app and online digital dashboard that lets you see what devices are on your home WiFi network. From the dashboard, you can troubleshoot issues, (much better for your equipment than turning everything off and on again, which I usually do) and even pause your home WiFi connections during dinnertime. Families with teens will love that you can create personal profiles and assign devices to individual family members.
xFi Pods are awesome. My house is set up in a weird shape so there are spots in the house that our WiFi coverage is really bad. That’s where xFi Pods come in. They plug into regular electrical outlets and deliver reliably fast speeds to those places where the WiFi signal is weak.
Xfinity Mobile is the nation’s first wireless service combining America’s largest and most reliable 4G LTE network with 18 million Xfinity WiFi hotspots. What you might not realize is that Xfinity Mobile plans are amazingly priced and offer as much if not more than their mobile competitors. As an Xfinity Mobile customer, you only pay for the data you use when paying by the gigabyte, and you can “switch and save” by changing to Unlimited anytime during your billing cycle.
And, Xfinity’s “Phone Finder” is perfect for busy families. You can find anyone in the family’s phone simply, by saying, “Xfinity Mobile, find my phone,” or, “Xfinity Mobile, find Rob’s phone.” But how do they know? Every new Xfinity Mobile customer assigns a name to their phone number. The phone number is then called and pre-recorded audio message from “Xfinity Mobile” informs the user why they’re receiving a phone call… Géniale!
iHeartRadio App on X1
This obviously needs it’s own heading, because I do, actually heart radio.
As a stay at home mom I listen to the radio alllll the time. iHeartRadio is the free all-in-one digital music, podcasting and live streaming radio service, that streams more than 1,000 radio stations from across the country directly to your TV. It’s now an app on X1.
Xfinity Home is Comcast’s home security, control and energy management platform. The system allows you to stay connected to your home remotely through an interactive web portal and your mobile device.
I’m a security freak. I never used to be. I left the house completely unlocked before I had three kids. The previous owners of our house had a lot of expensive art so their security system was pretty amazing but it was soooo expensive to keep it monitored. Xfinity’s security system does more than our original system did and is so much cheaper to have monitored.
The Xfinity Home security system is state of the art. It gives you the ability to watch live streams from wireless cameras around your house even if you are away. It will even send you an alert if a door in your house is opened while you’re not home. The equipment is beautiful, easy to use and the monitoring (if you choose to use it) is so much more affordable than anywhere else I’ve seen.
Go to the Xfinity website to find out more about all of the products I’ve mentioned in this post and a ton more. And if you can get into an Xfinity store it’s well worth it.
